Over the past century Calgary’s built-form has evolved from a unique arrangement of single-family detached housing to becoming increasingly homogeneous with the onset of poorly executed infill multi-unit dwellings. As a result, the identifiable character at the block and community scale has degraded. WESTMOUNT8 proposes a unique hybrid residential typology, different than the current available developments.

The building activates the corner of Westmount Road and 16th Street NW with 8 unique townhouse dwellings ranging from 85 m² 1-bedroom lofts to 250 m² family homes. The diversity in the unit types serve the community’s eclectic lifestyles. The scale of the building is sympathetic to the historic buildings within the neighbourhood while exhibiting a formally expressive infill typology. Each unit facing Westmount Road captures the uniqueness of single-family housing in the community through the unit’s transition from street-to-lane.
